With the holidays just around the corner, it's time to consider what to get for that special someone you love… or hate, depending on if you're in the giving mood this year, maybe you'll wanna just hide away until it's all over. Or maybe you just need something simple, and inexpensive – like Philips 8MP Swivel Digital Camera. If it were any cheaper it'd be a steal, and that's not always a good thing.
Digging right in, Philips Swivel Cam, before you put the batteries in, is one scary, lightweight camera. It'll make you wonder if there are any parts in it at all – it feels like it's just a shell. However you get a pretty decent camera out of the deal. With a large viewscreen, slim design for easy portability, and a nice silver finish. What makes the Swivel Cam unique amongst its brethren is the swivel cam. You can pull a full 180 rotation with the camera, not only being able to take pics of the subject in front of you, but you can take pics of yourself as well (or of you with someone). There's also a "discreet mode" where you turn the lens about 45 degrees so that your subject won't know your taking their picture.
The Swivel cam comes with no extra special features other than the basic functions of any digital camera. If you're looking for a point and shoot with a bit more meat on its bones, then definitely look elsewhere. Otherwise…
The Good:
As a daytime camera (or if you're taking pics in a well lit area), I'm actually digging the Swivel Cam. It takes some pretty decent shots, clear, not too crisp shots… a little fuzzy with a little more grain than I'm used to, but not bad. The swivel feature is a nice design as well, allowing you to take some pretty funky shots that you're normally unable to take with a regular camera. And the price point is about right, retailing at 64.99, so you're definitely not gonna burn a hole in your wallet.
